Music Season

During the first three months of the 1999-2000 festivals season, the number of organisations conducting festivals was 63, representing an increase of nine over the 1998-99 tally of 54. During the previous season, there had been a decrease in the number of organisations conducting festivals from the 1997-98 tally. In fact, the total number of organisations at the end of the festivals season ending 28 February 1999 stood at 64 only, whereas the figure has already reached 63 at the end of January this year! The total number of music and dance programmes which had fallen from 1954 in 1997-98 to 1837 in 1998-99 has again shown an upward trend, rising to 1923 with a month yet to go before the present season is completed.
