Ramarao V. Naik (89), southern star of the Agra gharana of Hindustani music, died on 21 October 1998 in Bangalore. On 11 October he had rendered a few thumri-s at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, for the Thumri Festival presented by him and his disciples. He was admitted to the nursing home three days later with high fever and a partial paralytic stroke. He lapsed into a coma later in the week and did consciousness. not regain
