Palghat V A Sundaram was a sought after percussion artiste in the Carnatic Music field.

An artiste of the All India Radio, he played the Mridangam and Ghatam for many leading artistes of the day.

Apart from percussion he could play the flute, sing very well too. He started his training in music at the age of five from Alathur Srinivasa Iyer and Alathur Panchapakesa Iyer. For flute, his Guru was K V Rajarama Iyer. Percussion was his mainstay, which he learnt from his own brother Ramachandra Iyer and ghatam from K M Vaidyanathan. His training in vocal and flute made his percussion support effective and sensitive.He knew many Tyagaraja kritis  and could sing them at ease.

He toured Canada, USA, Hongkong, Tehran with his concerts.

A well known teacher, he trained many students. He was a role model to leading artistes like T V Vasan.
