Charu Sija Mathur is a name that is synonymous with Manipuri dance. She hails from a family of artists and her works reflect the historical tradition and rich culture of Manipur. Born in 1940, Charu Sija Mathur was trained under R.K.Singhajit Singh (her husband).

Besides being a performer, she is involved in research and has taken up the role of propagating Manipuri dance. She continues to teach advanced students and with her husband Raj Kumar Singhajit Singh, has started a dance school in Delhi, Manipuri Nrityashram which provides a platform for students to experience Manipuri dance.

Charu Sija Mathur has acted and performed in over 35 ballets and continues to perform, choreograph and teach. She has received the SNA award for Manipuri Dance in the year 2001.
