Bhaskar Roy Chowdhury

Bhaskar Roy Chowdhury was born in Feb11, 1930 in Chennai into a family of Indian Royalty. He was the son of Devi Prasad Roy Chowdhury, an accomplished painter and his mother Charulata Roy Chowdhury was a sculptor. He grew up surrounded by the rich influences of art, music and theatre.In his early years; he developed a keen interest in boxing and became a professional boxer when an injury prevented him from continuing the sport.

Bhaskar was both an actor and a dancer. He learnt Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi,Kathak and folk dances and started his own dance company. His talent was spotted by an American theatre agent and he found himelf paying characters in various television serials and Broadway productions. He was most noted for his performance in the cult horror classic, I drink your blood.

He founded the Bhasker-Dances of India Company with a troupe of American dancers and performed widely. A freak accident in the theatre almost left him paralyzed but after a period of recuperation he continued to multitask-Modeling and writing children’s books.

Bhaskar Roy Chowdhury passed away on 2003 in New York at the age of 75.
