Satya Bandopadhay was a Bengali theatre and film actor. Born on 25 September, 1933 in Patna, he did his schooling from Lucknow Bengali School.
As an actor, he came into prominence in the 1950s with memorable performances in Utpal Dutt’s productions at the Little Theatre Group. Some of the landmark plays in his professional career were Titas Ekti Nadir Nam by Ritwik Ghatak in 1963, Tir in 1967, Leniner Dak in 1969, Tiner Taloyar in 1971, Surja Shikar in 1971, Thikana in 1971, and Barricade (1972).
Satya Bandopadhyay authored books on Brecht and Dutt in Bengali language. He also wrote scripts for plays and some essays on theatre. His work in cinema consisted of highly acclaimed perfomances in Ulka(1957), Balika Bodhu (1967) , Sesh theke Shuru (1969), Kuheli (1971), Jana Aranya (1976), Ekdin Protidin (1979), Dadar Kirti (1980), and Bouma (1986).
He was awarded Sangeet Natyak Akademi award in 1996. He passed away in 2006.
