Surekha Sikri

Surekha Sikri or Surekha Sikri Rege is popularly known as ‘Dadisa’ now after her well crafted role in the TV series Balika Vadhu. She is a film, theatre and TV actor, who has won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress twice, for her role in Tamas in 1988 and for Mammo in 1995.

Born in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, Surekha Sikri graduated from the National School of Drama (NSD) in 1968, and worked with the NSD Repertory Company for over a decade before shifting to Mumbai. Her father was in the Air Force and mother a school teacher.

Her first movie was Kissa Kursi Ka in 1978. Since then she has acted in many films. Some of her well appreciated films are Zubeida, Mammo, Sardari Begum, Tamas and Raincoat and Mr and Mrs Iyer,. She has also acted in many TV serials like Banegi Apni Baat, Kesar, Saher, Samay and Balika Vadhu.

In December 2008, Surekha Sikri was awarded the Idea ITA award for the Best Actress in a Negative Role for the serial Balika Vadhu (Colors TV). She received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1989.

Her husband Hemant Rege passed away in 2009.
