One of the most respected veterans among Carnatic vocalists, Nedunuri Krishnamurthy is known for his classical values, tonal quality, diction and emotional appeal. Born to Rama Murthy Pantulu and Vijayalakshmi on 10 October, 1927, at Kothapalli, Pithapuram Taluk, Andhra Pradesh, he hails from a musical lineage through his mother and maternal uncle. 

His initial training was in violin and vocal music from Dwaram Narasinga Rao Naidu at the Maharajah's Music College at Vizianagaram in the 1940s. Towards the end of the decade, Nedunuri started developing his own individual style under the guidance of Dr Sripada Pinakapani. He started his performing career in 1945 and as a top rank artiste of All India Radio, he has been performing since 1951. 

He also served the government as Principal of G.V.R Govt. College of Music and Dance, Vijayawada, Govt. College of Music and Dance, Secunderabad, M.R. Govt. College of Music and Dance, Vizianagaram, and on deputation at Sri Venkateswara College of Music and Dance, Tirupati.

Nedunuri has tuned and popularised several compositions of saint-poets Annamacharya and Bhadrachala Ramadas. In recognition of this valuable contribution to the Carnatic music repertoire, he was appointed the 'Asthana Vidwan' of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams(T.T.D). His numerous awards include the Sangeet Natak Akademi award in 1986 and the crowning title of Sangita Kalanidhi of the Madras Music Academy in 1991. Prominent disciples include the Malladi Brothers, D. Chitti Abbayi, Koka Satyavathi, K. Saraswati Vidyarthi, G. Balakrishna Prasad, and Shobha Raju.

In 1991, the veteran vocalist established 'Nadasudha Tarangini', a trust that aims to preserve and popularise the traditional values of Carnatic music for posterity.
