Anoor Anantha Krishna Sharma (popularly known as Shivu) who hails from a family of musicians was born to Vidwan Anoor R Ramakrishna and Sree Lakshmi. His father Anoor Ramakrishna was a well-known violinist, and an eminent teacher too in the Dept. of Music of Bangalore University.

Anoor Anantha Krishna Sharma initiated his learning of Mridangam under Vidwan R A Rajagopal, who was a highly accomplished Mridangam / Ghatam artist and a senior staff of All India Radio, Bangalore.

He won the “Best Mridangam Artist” in 1981 by Gayana Samaja and the “Best Mridangam Artist” in 1996 from Madras Music Academy.
