26-year old Prithvija started her training in Bharatanatyam at the age of five under the guidance of her father, Prof. C.K. Balagopalan. For Prithvija, learning Bharatanatyam was a physical and an emotional experience. She completed a 5-year part time course in Bharatanatyam, certified by Kalakshetra foundation. After her part time course she was under the guidance Prof. V.P Dhananjayan for three years. An abiding interest in the dance form led her to pursue first class in her Diploma and Post Diploma from Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts, Kalakshetra Foundation. She continues to learn dance under Sri Sheejith Krishna in Sahrudaya Foundation.

As she emerges into the limelight from her father’s shadow, Prithvija wants to explore the form to present it in her individualistic way. hope to gain the creative energy to fathom its strength and meet audience expectations to be able to strike a perfect balance.

She has donned lead roles in several dance-drama productions by Kalakshetra, such as Sita in Sita Swayamvaram, Rukmini in Rukmini kalyanam, Akkamma in Akkamahadevi, Golden Deer in Sabari Moksham and many others. She was a part of Sahrduya's production "Sadrshyam" on February 2nd 2013. She performed as Sita in the first series (Bala Kandam) of the Ramayana repertoire in December 2011 at Krishna Gana Sabha. In 2010, she performed in the dance production "Ritu Samhar" choreographed by the living legend Pandit Birju Maharaj for the 12th  International festival of dance & music held in Bangkok and Jeonju international Sori festival, South Korea. She has performed in Singapore at the Singapore-Indian Fine Arts Society in March 2008.She was also a part of the 8th International Festival of Dance and Music held at Bangkok in 2006. Prithvija has acccompanied the Kalakshetra troupe in India and abroad for various folk and classical dance presentations between 2004 to 2008. She has also performed for Office Department Delab Cultural Organization in 2005 held in Reunion Island - Mauritius.

Prithvija has also done solo performances at Music Academy for the dance festival held on January 5th 2011, Bharatha Kalakshetra Auditorium for monthly cultural programme in September 2009, Narada Gana Sabha mini hall for Natyarangam on March 15th 2008, Varasiddhi Vinayakar temple during the fifth annual Naatyotsavam in March 2008, a solo performance during the Swati Tirunal festival held at Anantha Padmanabha Temple, Adyar, Chennai in August 2008, and has performed for the 10th anniversary of Layam Kalakshetra in Payyanur, Kerala. Prithvija has exhibited her choreography skills in creating a dance ‘Karpagambal’ in semi classical and classical style at a programme organised by Dr. Sridharan in August 2007.

Prithvija was awarded the Best dancer in the Spirit of Youth festival of music and dance which wasconducted by Music Academy, Chennai, in the year 2009-10 and she has also received the Young Talented Artiste Award for 2008-09 from South Zone Cultural Centre (under Ministry of Culture, Government of India), Thanjavur.

She conducts Bharatanatyam classes at IIT Madras Campus and also teaches at GT Aloha Vidya Mandhir, Chennai. apart from her father's institution "Balanrithyalaya".
