Navia Natarajan had her early training in Bharatanatyam under Radhika Kalyani in Chennai. She was trained subsequently by Padmini Ramachandran at Bangalore and had her arangetram in 1989. She is currently having special training under A.Lakshman and Bragha Bessel. She won prizes in several competitions and was the recipient of scholarships from the Department of Culture and from CCRT. She has performed widely in India and has participated in major dance festivals. She has had concert tours in USA, UK, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Austria and the Middle East. Apart from items of the Margam, she has choreographed and presented Agni and a Tamil short story and the story of Dhruva for Natyarangam’s festival Bharatham Kathai Kathaiyaam. She has given lecture demonstrations on Bharatanatyam in India and in USA. She has founded  the Navia Dance Academy in San Jose, California, U.S.A
